Ed Dufort & A Bunch of Squid was a band in the early 90? made up of me, Paul Janzen, Dennis Gendron, sometimes Gilles Fournier, John Hudson, Steve Hamilton, Léo Bérard, whoever was available .. I think we did half a dozen gigs in all? I can’t remember. I feel like I was a kid when I did this, a bit naive, a bit risky, I had stuff to say. Good Times, younger years, what were we doing, what were we thinking, I hadn't listened to this in such a long time and in re listening to it I'm pretty surprised by how good the musicians who played with me were, and how lucky I was to have these guys put these songs together with me, some of the songs seem to sound pretty good, others I'm not sure, not because of the musicians, but because oh how I sang or what the heck I was writing about... Sometimes I listen to this I love it all, sometimes I only like one song, sometimes a few or more make me cringe ... We recorded this right at the end of cassettes and put it on cassette just as cassettes we're fading away rapidly, and CDs we're coming out. CDs went berserk so many people told me to put this in digital format, so here you go, digital format, 30 years later? ...ah, what is time anyway.
Hope you enjoy this, I tried to put the songs that I'm the least embarrassed about at the beginning, or songs that people seem to enjoy the most in the first part and others that people enjoyed but I'm embarrassed about I put them a bit later, also the ones that I didn't want to be in your face spiritual just off the bat. I really enjoy the esoteric feel that John Hudson came up with in the songs we did at his place, as well as his ideas, percussion and piano .. too bad we didn't have better equipment, but this was still okay for not having the cash for more time and better equipment. God I hope I said thank you enough to these guys for doing these songs with me just in case I didn't, thanks lots! it was one of the funnest times in my life to create and build with these guys. They put in some real hard work:
Steve Hamilton, John Hudson, David Larocque, Léo Berard,
Paul janzen , Janice Harding, Don Benediction, Mark block, they didn't play in all the songs they're all in different songs. Engineers. Gilles Fréchette, Paul Barnabé for si tu veux, Chris Brett helped produce and engineer 4 songs, John Hudson the rest.
thanks Keith Rach for cover photo and and André Guyot for the inside photo.
The lyrics are somewhere on the band camp site as a jpeg if interested. I don't know how I managed to sound even a bit relaxed through some of these songs as I was not a paragon of confidence. - For fun I also added some experimenting stuff with harmonies from home after I bought Pro Tools and I was fooling around with it, it would be great to do these for real, these 3 songs are working ideas that I think show some potential: taking in the senses, staking claims, and riviere Rouge, I've added Bridges to a couple of these since then as well, but they're not on these recordings.
